PRESS RELEASE & INVITATION
Trust in Digital Life to Host ‘Whose Data is it Anyway?’ Event to Discuss Realities of PSD2 and GDPR
Date: Thursday 14th December 2017
Venue: Informatics Forum, University of Edinburgh
Trust in Digital Life (TDL), the community of leading industry partners and knowledge institutes that promotes trust and trustworthy services in the digital economy, today announced that it is hosting a must-attend one-day personal data event, addressing the impact of GDPR and PSD2, the EU-wide regulations coming into force in 2018, with a particular focus on the financial community.
Whose Data is it Anyway? Is a free-to-attend seminar, hosted in collaboration with Edinburgh-based The ID Co. and takes place at the Informatics Forum, University of Edinburgh, between 08.30 and 15.15 on Thursday 14th December 2017.
Chairman of TDL, Amardeo Sarma states: “Our objective for the day is to provide a clear understanding to all stakeholders, including individuals and businesses, large and small, regarding the practical realities of what these new EU regulations will mean, as well as assessing how the world is likely to look like three to five years after PSD2 and GDPR have been in force.”
The deadline for all EU Member States to implement PSD2, the second Payment Services Directive, as law is 13th January 2018. It will require payment service providers to make significant changes to their operations, such as banks having to make their payments infrastructure and customer data assets open to third parties. PSD2 is seen as a major step towards creating a European Digital Single Market.
The EU GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) represents a significant overhaul of data protection legislation. On 25th May 2018, all EU Member States will enshrine in law the inalienable rights of individuals to have any data relating to them adequately protected and managed, with stiff penalties and fines for companies that do not comply.
Chief Executive Officer at The ID Co., James Varga, adds: “We envisage a world where you can trust that people are who they say they are online. With open banking coming into effect, it is essential that people have complete control over their personal data and identity. Events such as this with TDL provide an important step towards making that a reality.”
