Athina Markopoulou is a Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at UC Irvine. She holds a PhD from Stanford in Electrical Engineering. She is currently the Director of the California Institute on Telecommunications and Information Technologies (CalIT2) at UCI. Her research interests are in network measurement, data privacy (she is the lead PI of ProperData an NSF SaTC Frontiers project, whose goal is to “Protect Personal Data on the Internet”, 2025-26), and AI (she is the director of a new UCI Engineering+Society Institute on AI, 2025-2030).
