On Thursday, 9 October the TDL webinar autumn series continued with a renewed look at the challenges that have evolved in association with the security of hardware.
For connected systems with integrated components and multiple software packages, hardware security has become a very important challenge, Side channel attacks have become sophisticated and physical attacks proliferate. Global supply chains add new concerns while complexity of the design leads to renewed difficulties to address threats. Finally, performance tradeoffs associated with new security features in hardware limit the designers’ ability and the users’ appetite to introduce and deploy new protections. Despite difficulties, a lot of progress is being made.
The panel of distinguished speakers, discussed the current situation in hardware security and shared their thoughts on the future of this field:
- Helena Handschuh, Technical Board Advisor, QuSecure and SCI Semiconductors
- Daniel Nemiroff, Cybersecurity Consultant and Expert Witness
- Patrick Schaumont, Professor and Joseph Samuel Satin Distinguished Fellow in ECE (Electrical and computer engineering)
- Radu Sion, CEO, Private Machines Inc, and Computer Science Professor, Stony Brook University
The session was moderated by TDL strategic advisor, Claire Vishik.
