Jan Camenisch is a Distinguished Researcher at Subzero Lab. He is a fellow of IACR, IEEE and ACM, and has received numerous awards for this research in cryptography and privacy. He received his PhD from ETH Zurich in cryptography in 1998. Prior to joining Subzero Labs in 2025, Jan was CTO at the DFINITY Foundation building the Internet Computer Protocol, a researcher at IBM Research – Zurich leading the cryptography and privacy team, and an Assistant Professor at Aarhus University.
Jan has published over 140 scientific papers on cryptography, privacy, trusted computing and distributed systems. He is a co-inventor of direct anonymous attestation, providing a method for a platform to prove it is a genuine trusted device without revealing its unique identity, which is a standard in trusted computing authentication.
