Rosario (Ro) Cammarota

Rosario (Ro) Cammarota is a computer scientist and technology leader specialising in cryptography, privacy-enhancing technologies and secure computing systems. He is an Associate Professor at the University of California, Irvine and Chief Scientist at Cammarota Lab.

Previously a Senior Principal Engineer and Chief Scientist at Intel Labs, he led large-scale initiatives in fully homomorphic encryption (FHE), including the HERACLES platform and contributions to ISO/IEC 28033.

He serves as an advisor to Optalysys and BTQ, advancing sustainable encrypted computing—from optical architectures to quantum-resilient cryptography—with a focus on practical mid-term impact, while his academic work targets longer-term foundations for secure, energy-efficient and trustworthy AI systems.

He is widely recognised for advancing practical privacy-preserving computation and shaping global research, industry collaboration, and standardisation efforts in secure and trustworthy AI.
