Konrad is a proven leader with over 25 years of deep, practical experience in the fields of cybersecurity, privacy, cryptography and artificial intelligence. He received his Master of Science degree in Mathematics from the University of Maryland at College Park. His early career was devoted to public service in the Intelligence Community, applying mathematics to cybersecurity and information assurance problems, garnering multiple prestigious awards for his technical contributions to national security. He moved from developing practical standards for cybersecurity analysis to managing advanced research projects in security and privacy. Under his guidance, significant advances were made in autonomic security and cryptographic protocols for private information sharing. Konrad provided expert counsel as a senior advisor to the Pentagon on cybersecurity and managed internal research and development projects in emerging intersections between AI, security, and privacy.
Konrad currently teaches Ethics and Social Issues of Information Technology at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He enjoys nurturing integrative ethical reasoning skills in Computer Science and Computer Engineering undergraduates. His teaching methods are innovative and stimulate ethical thinking about a broad spectrum of information technologies as both an engineer and a user. He implements a unique curriculum that encompasses Aristotelian and Confucian Virtue Ethics, Kantian Deontological Ethics, Utilitarianism, Ubuntu philosophy and the Ethics of Care.
Konrad is working on his first novel. He has produced and published songs, and has mixed house audio and visual media for live church performances for several years. He has run two marathons, enjoys hiking in the mountains and has rock climbed in the Adirondacks and West Virginia. He currently lives in Maryland with his wife and youngest son.
